CHARACTER NAME: Thanatos
CHARACTER SERIES: Hades by Supergiant Games

[OOC]

Backtagging: Yes
Threadhopping: Yes
Fourthwalling: Yes, he's a god and will assume they know him from some mortal tale
Offensive subjects (elaborate): Being the God of Death means that death as a topic will likely come up. However, he is also the God of Gentle Death, meaning he doesn't deal with the violent ones. Also while the Supergiant Games versions are generally less terrible, it is still a canon based on Greek mythology.

[IC]

Hugging this character: Yes, they can try. He is unlikely to allow or reciprocate except for close CR
Kissing this character: Yes, they can try. He is unlikely to allow or reciprocate except for very close CR
Flirting with this character: Why are you flirting with Death? Yes, they can try. However, it's going to be going to be hell to get anything mutual (For one, he'll have to recognize his own feelings, and that's a whole other issue.)
Fighting with this character: Yes. Anything involving being bound or shackled needs a heads up beforehand as it'll change how Thanatos reacts
Injuring this character (include limits and severity): Yes. Major injury and permanent damage need to be plotted beforehand
Killing this character: Can one kill Death himself? Yes, but it must be plotted beforehand
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: Yes. People will sense that he's a God of Death and all the unpleasantness that might bring. He may seem old and young at the same time. As a child of Nyx, there is a lot of Darkness. They'll also sense that he's... not really as scary as he appears to be and yearns a lot for various things (or people).

Warnings: Restraining Thanatos, especially by the wrists, will make him panic due to bad memories of being shackled and then stuffed in a box for a month.

Hades Spoilers & Thanatos Death Sense Permissions:

I want to avoid spoiling anything for those playing the game. I will try to avoid major spoilers in general, and the canon point I take Than from helps. However, I am more than happy to adjust my play for those okay or not okay with any spoilers. Please let me know!

Also, Thanatos has an innate sense of death that takes many forms. If your character has died, is going to die, has some other connection with death, he'll likely be able to sense that. Being able to sense a character's death related things is opt-in on a character by character basis.

IC excuse for not being able to sense anything is that the Three Fates haven't woven anything for your characters, so those ties aren't there for him. He is away from his world after all.

Character(s): Yosuke Otoha/[personal profile] bakegarasu
Spoilers: I’m cool with 99% of spoilers other than romance route details because I’m still trying to get Zag to smooch Than.
Death sense: Otoha has ‘died’ before - I think he was clinically dead for a second but his soul wasn’t in his body for like a week, then he was ‘alive’ again and then nearly died again before he was healed, but his soul still isn’t in his body, it’s in his amulet that he keeps on him at all times. He’s also the *cause* of a lot of death including fratricide/patricide (it’s complicated) and I am aware that familial murder is one of the worse crimes in classical Greece sooooo... feel free to sense that too.

Character(s): Conan Edogawa (Shinichi Kudo), Danny Fenton, Takato Matsuda and Guilmon
Spoilers: Completely canon blind, but okay with spoilers.
Death sense: Y
Conan Edogawa (Shinichi Kudo): Homicide Detective and murder magnet. Runs into so many murder cases that numerous acquaintances have suggested that he must be cursed or possessed by a shinigami.

Also currently appears to be seven years old, due to an encounter with an experimental poison.

Danny Fenton: Half-ghost. About two years ago he was involved in an accident with a portal opening into the afterlife that left him as either a human with ghost powers, a ghost with a living body, or something halfway in between. Not even he is sure of the answer.

Takato Matsuda (and Guilmon): Nothing to sense here. Just a Digimon kid and his best friend.

Character(s): Bucky Barnes AKA Soldat
Spoilers: Spoil me all you like, I'm probably never gonna play the games and I don't care about spoilers even if I did
Death sense: Go wild, Thanatos, there's a lot to see here. Bucky has died... bunches of times, if you count medical death, thanks HYDRA! Medical experimentation sucks. He died for "good" before going to Beacon, where he then died a couple more times and had his body repaired using magitech stuff connected to his lantern. (Oh, and his lantern is where his life force/soul/whatever is. In case he'd see that.) Not sure if he can tell this, but he's also killed bunches and bunches of people, so there might be that, too.

Character(s): Who do you play? Glorfindel (Tolkein/LOTR/Silmarillon)
Spoilers: Completely canon-blind, so I don't care :)
Death sense: Glorfindel is on his second life. He has spent time in the Halls of Waiting before being sent back to Middle Earth, and feels that Namo (the God of the Underworld) is a kind figure who most fear because they don't know him very well. If you are up on your Valar, we can talk more about it :)

Character(s): Who do you play? Wei Wuxian (MZDS/The Untamed)
Spoilers: Completely canon-blind, so I don't care :)
Death sense: Wei Wuxian is also on his second life, and was dead for about 13 years before someone else sacrificed their soul so he could possess their body. He's what I call a recovering necromancer. He uses Resentful Energy to help out in fights, but does not try to raise the dead anymore. It upsets his husband, and he's trying to strengthen his other Cultivation powers.

Character(s): Taiki ([personal profile] longforgottenpromise) Romeo ([personal profile] myblueskies) and Little One ([personal profile] knifewithnoname)
Spoilers: I'm good with spoilers
Death sense: Opt-in for all of them. Romeo is dead (he's a spirit weapon of a god). Taiki and Little One are both alive- they have both been around a lot of death and caused death if that's something he can sense.

Character(s): Nita Callahan, Alfredo Martini
Spoilers: I'm fine with spoilers!
Death sense: Alfredo is canonically dying/was dead at his canonpoint; Nita's had... Dealings with the inventor of Death in her canon (in addition to having killed over the course of her errantry, sob), but that doesn't seem to be as relevant for Than's domain?

Character(s): Prisoner (Dead Cells)
Spoilers: Don't worry about it
Death sense: Sure. Corpse is dead but it is entirely unrelated to him - it's like a glove on a hand: a matter of convenience, not a part of him. The real him is otherwise immortal as far as I can tell. From what I've gathered he's never died, he simply changed form into what he is now, but if any new lore is dropped I'll update as we go.

[personal profile] fun_thementalist
Spoilers: Everything with Than is good! I haven't reached the True Ending for Hades yet but I've passed the final boss 5 times so I'm getting there!
Death sense:

Zechs is a former soldier who killed a lot of people, and took revenge on people in cold blood, and has also nearly died at the end of Gundam Wing, before the Endless Waltz OVA. (How he survived was never explained.) So there's a lot Than can work with here, if you'd like!

Gen is totally death free! He's been petrified for thousands of years, but that was basically placing him in suspended animation. That wouldn't likely ping Thanatos, I don't believe.

Character(s): Ken Amada (AU)
Spoilers: Still trying to get Zag to smooch Than but otherwise go for it.
Death sense: Okay so this is complicated. Ken himself might have a slight resonance with Death based on it being highly connected with the Dark Hour (secret hour of the night). His Evoker has a Plume of Dusk in it, which was shed from Nyx's body when she merged with the moon. It's unclear if Nyx gave Death to the world or if she's just highly tied to it in Ken's canon, but either way it'll probably ping strangely. (Ken doesn't really know much about this stuff, himself.) Persona are 'tamed Shadows', and according to the Persona 3 Club Book Shadows are literally fragments of Nyx's psyche that exist in everyone.

As for the rest of Ken besides his Persona and his Evoker, he was literally about to kill a man and himself. It was literally strong enough for Takaya to be able to tell, so for someone way more sensitive to Death and with a stronger connection to Nyx it's probably pretty obvious he did not intend his life to be long.

Character(s): Guri
Spoilers: Nope!
Death sense: She's not been technically born, hasn't died, and is theoretically immortal, so long as she maintains a power charge. She might give his senses a bit of a time, in other words.

Though if he did sense that she WOULD die, this would absolutely delight her - since machines don't die, they're deactivated. Death is a human thing, which would indicate she's closer to human than machine.

Character(s): V(incent) (Cyberpunk 2077)
Spoilers: Don't worry about it
Death sense: He died once via bullet to the brain, then a dumb biochip repaired the damage enough for his body to live or something. Then it started to kill him so that a dumb rockerboy could have his body. He gives his original body up to Johnny and joins the great AI sea, so I guess that's technically a second death?

There's multiple mentions that Alt wouldn't be able to restore his soul after using Soulkiller on him - V himself doesn't care much either way and considers himself just himself, but if you're wanting to roll with that you're welcome to.

Character(s): Vexen
Spoilers: Anything up to escape 3 is fine.
Death sense: So, he's technically died three times. Twice by having his metaphysical heart removed from his body (once violently, once a willing self-sacrifice), and once by being set on fire. He's also...been involved in experiments that caused a lot of deaths, and is so steeped in darkness that anyone with a sense for it can tell right away. Someone with a detailed sense can tell that some of the darkness isn't actually his.

He also isn't currently a paradoxical existence as a being that *should* have faded away for good without his heart, but had such a strong will that his soul is able to defy nature and let his body semi-exist.

Character(s): Raven Roth
Spoilers: Your default of being careful of major spoilers is fine. Thank you.
Death sense: I'm not sure how it would reflect--Raven hasn't 'died' in her canon yet, and doesn't really even 'die' when being used as a portal by Trigon to come to Earth. (She just reverts to a small child version of herself with no powers.) Her Fate is basically very tangled, but she IS connected to a prophecy.

Death sense: Yondu died before showing up on the train. He also was a battle slave since childhood, so he's got an enormous death count (He killed 209 in GotG2 alone). Probably talking in the thousands. Big Warrior Vibes. He also assisted in murdering a celestial before showing up.

Character(s): Wei Wuxian, (OU) Untamed version!
Spoilers: I LOVE SPOILERS! No, seriously, spoil me forever.
Death sense: Opting in, depending on what death related means; Wei Wuxian is a necromancer (as much as he's allowed to be within his canon) and has killed, been near death a lot, technically was supposed to have died but Didn't Actually (no, not even he knows what happened in his sixteen years of dark hiatus), Killed Really Purposefully, manipulated all kinds of dead energies, and coaxed resentful spirits into not like. Tearing everything apart. Fought a lot of death energy... had it infused with him like tea... Anyway, death is a theme in his... life.

Character(s): Siebren de Kuiper, Ryo
Spoilers: SPOIL ME
Death sense: DO IT

Ryo is a healer, and while he's definitely been around death (his mother died in childbirth and his world is pretty dangerous as it is), the closest he gets to death at this point in his story is the fact that he's pulled people back from the brink of death more than once.

Siebren...has a body count, and will not in any capacity be okay with discussing it. (This should not stop Thanatos from bringing it up if the occasion arises.) Also, does being ripped apart by a black hole and then reconstituted by that same black hole count as a death? Who knows! Thanks, Blizzard!

Character(s): Rich Goranski
Spoilers: No preference really! I'd like to avoid major spoilers if possible, but if something comes up, let me know.
Death sense: It's probably obvious from the way Rich looks that he had a near death experience, as he tried to burn himself as a suicide attempt. He doesn't die from it, so it's up to you whether Thanatos would know the details and that Rich had done this to himself on purpose.

Character(s): Devero
Spoilers: I don't play many video games so no need to worry about spoiling me!
Death sense: There's not much for Than to sense but you're welcome to have him pick up on what's there. Dev has had to kill Eight Whole People in the course of his career with his world's version of military special ops, which makes him grizzled and hardcore where he comes from. (Please feel free to laugh.) His kill record is clean, which means they were all judged to be last resort defensive kills by the people who evaluate those things where he comes from, but he still feels guilty and frustrated about having to have made them at all.

Part of this frustration and guilt comes from the fact that he's a several-generations-removed survivor of an apocalyptic plague that took 99 out of every 100 people on Earth, so human life is super super SUPER precious where he comes from. People aren't supposed take the lives of other people, nature and the failures of human society does that. His society basically reacted to that much death by developing as many methods they could to stave it off for as long as possible. But since his world is a 'realistic' sci-fi, that mostly has to do with really robust health care and medical developments, so may not be detectable in any significant way beyond that he's a really, really healthy dude, with any natural death due to him a long way off in his future. (Like, over a hundred years into his future, maybe more.)

He's also dating a guy who died violently before coming to the train and has had to deal with (and deal) so much death, so much; so Devero's kind of grappling with the realization that he's on a train full of people for whom murder is just a fact of life. Kind of uncomfortable...

Anyway, IDK how much of that would be detectable by or of interest to Than, but it's there if you want to use it!

Spoilers: I'm super duper fine with soilers. I'm playing through it but the more I hear the more I wanna know and get that much more excited to get to said spoiler part. (Translation: spoil away, you're fine)
Death sense: Absolutely okay with it!
A good thing to know if he is able to sense it, that Willow (as an adult) possesses a fragmented piece of her lover back home's soul bound to her own. This is important not only because that's a feature unique as is, but the person it belongs to had died mere moments before the soul-binding occurred to save said person's life. Than has full permission to be aware that a person's soul who has, poetically speaking, touched death resides with part of her.
Willow is a being of fire and life and pretty much immortal but is capable of dying if the circumstances align just right.

Character(s): Ea-nasir + Ai Haibara
Spoilers: I've beaten the game I'm good fam
Death sense: Haibara is fine - she's never died, but her soul's age doesn't match her body if he can sense that. (She's been de-aged.)

Ea-nasir is also fine, but also where things get interesting. She died almost 3,800 years ago, but afterwards, her soul was pulled into the Throne of Heroes and taken outside of the cycle of life, death, and reincarnation.
When she was pulled into a Holy Grail War, her body was created through magic using a class system as a template (signifying her as Caster) and the soul given to it is a copy of the original Ea-nasir's, pulled from the Throne of Heroes. But being created by the world itself, the copy is exactly the same as the original's.
Her body and form are sustained through mana, meaning that she's basically a giant magic construct in the shape of a human with the copy of a dead soul that's been pulled from the cycle of life and death.
In Ea-nasir's case, though, her soul has also merged with the human concept of the con artist, meaning she's also half, like, pure resentment given form.
That all make sense??

Character(s): Casper LeBlanc, Jr.
Spoilers: Thanatos has been smooched, we're all clear.
Death sense: He's died before, his soul is in his raven. He has strong death-related powers and energy. If he tries to pinpoint it specifically he may be able to trace it as coming from his bone necklace. He also has a faint Fate-bound connection to death due to Ragnarök, as all the Norse do in his universe. He also might be able to tell that Fate has a more heavy grab on him, though he's learned to... not be actively hostile to Fate but not let Fate control him, if that makes sense.

Also I forgot to add: he's got both his canon-style 'immortality' which is more like being ageless as well as some traces of Greek-flavored immortality. So, you know. Weird.

He had his own golden core but it was literally burned out of him and that's kind of a Big Deal and a Big Secret. <- Untamed spoilers, if that's something you're worried about! Also his entire family is dead minus his adopted brother and his nephew (entire sect, mother, father, sister, brother-in-law and co-parent) if that's something Than might pick up on! Death sense: This is a spoiler for FFXV - but the game has been out for a while by now. Noctis is fated by the big boss god of his world to die in order to save it; at his present point in canon, Noctis is completely ignorant to this.

A-Qing: has died on-train violently at the hands of another Voidtrecker (Fiddlesticks 16), was moments from death at her canonpoint (Fiddlesticks 15, kinda)
