The light has been hurting my head and eyes more and more. I'll be fine in a bit.
[ Thanatos always had a sensitivity towards light, but this seems to be on a level beyond that. He starts sorting the papers, frowns, and grabs another folder to label Gamma. ]
Thanatos has to be the stronger, responsible one. He's the one who has to get the job done no matter what, no matter how he feels. Before it was an easy task, but with everything going on, now it feels all the more pressing. All the more important?
He pets Mort who nuzzling into him again, offering soft and gentle squeaks. "It's not just you. Many are feeling it. And my light sensitivity is acting up." He sits down, and Mort scrambles down his arm and nuzzles Ryo's elbow. "Take today off from school, okay? I'll get your work for you."
Blood and darkness, did Thanatos say something wrong again? He ducks his head down, a faint red blush on his cheeks. This is something that he needs to fix because giving a clear argument is important for a law student. He can't confuse someone so much like this when in court. And then he sees that the currency isn't what he said the second time. Why did he confuse the currency this badly?
"I'm originally not from here." The illusion provides a suitable explanation for him, and a clear-headed Thanatos could not even argue against it. He is from somewhere else.
"Even without the threat of something hypnotic, those lights are threatening enough for me," Thanatos chuckles and points to his temples. "Light sensitivity."
He should probably wear sunglasses more, but it's hard when sunglasses aren't allowed to be worn in class. Maybe if he had a medical note.... Why did he never think to go to the doctor if it's this bad?
"An ambush predator... I could see that working. An orchid mantis would also make a nice fashion statement." Nothing like a bug that looks like a flower to be both a spotter and an accessory.
"What do you mean by 'weird thing'?" Thanatos frowns as if he has never consider it to be something other than a weapon or tool for intimidation. No kink shaming. But that ain't his. "Well, it's not fully real as it's a mock trial, but the proceedings are supposed to be like the real thing. The teacher never stopped or corrected it. I've seen the prosecution throw a cup full of liquid before."
Still, this has Thanatos going for his textbook. What is and isn't allowed in a courtroom has to be in there, right?
"I'm Thanatos. I'm usually more towards the law building, but I go over here to study. My general education classes are on this side of the university too." It is also the place where people can study, listen to random students playing the piano in the lobby, and avoid how violent the other law students can be. (This university runs on the Ace Attorney school of law.)
"No wonder you're out here in the middle of the night," James said with half a smile behind his mask. "Dark sunglasses don't cut it?" He's got some dark tinted goggles, maybe those would be more effective. Hmm.
"Errrrr..." He's sort of afraid to spell it out now. Does this guy really not see what's happening?? Maybe the textbook will prove it. Disprove it? Erm.
"I dunno it just seems kinda...weird I guess? I mean, people ain't supposed to toss whips around in th' streets outside of like, a hero fight right? Even then it feels kinda..."
Heroes and weapons don't really line up, he's just saying. "...That book gonna say if it is?"
He doesn't like it. He doesn't like the idea of being alone with his thoughts, when none of them are aligning correctly and rub against his brain like sandpaper. He doesn't like the idea of Thanatos going out alone, when everything seems so wrong. He doesn't like feeling as though he should be doing something more - as though there's something to fix that he should be working on, but he doesn't know where or how or why. He doesn't like the mystery hanging around his and Thanatos's necks.
But there's nothing he can do about any of it. Honestly, he dislikes that more than anything else.
He sighs and shifts, freeing up a hand to gently pet Mort. "Okay," he says, and it's not okay, but what else can he do? "Don't forget your sunglasses."
"Not as much as I'd like, and I never seem to have them when I need to." Thanatos doesn't think he's that absentminded, given that he's a good student, but for some reason, his shades never seem to be on him when the light gets bad.
(More like a certain someone wants to keep a death god hindered in some fashion.)
While he knows of certain past activities done between Zagreus and Megaera, the Furies commonly use their whips on the wicked shades in Tartarus as punishment and not for what Katsuya is trying to imply. He uses a weapon in his daily line of work. Weapons are just common.
Thanatos flips through the pages of the textbook, frowning. The information in the book seems slow to appear, like someone didn't expect a person to investigate too deeply into the specifics.
He's not going out alone. He has Mort, who is now running back up to Thanatos with all intents on keeping him company. "Thanks." Thanatos grabs his sunglasses. "For some reason, they keep disappearing on me." He's not that absentminded, but Thanatos can't explain why they aren't available when he needs them.
He's about to leave the door to travel to the university when he stops and looks back at Ryo. Thanatos can try to do something to cheer him... can't he? "If you want, you can use some of my colored pens to doodle on the edges of your list. Just let me know if the purple runs out, okay?"
"Uhhhhh.... ....m...maybe there oughta be a work-safety complaint made 'r somethin'..."
Or maybe it's for when villain trials get amped up?? No wait, that would mean they use them at the defense or witness rather than the actual prosecutors and such...
"I keep misplacing my sunglasses. It's the strangest thing to constantly misplace when you have a light sensitivity," Thanatos gives an embarrassed laugh. It's almost like his subconscious wants him to get light induced migraines, though he cannot fathom why that would be.
He goes for his wallet. Whatever the currency is, the illusion supplies the correct version. "I hope I don't suddenly lose this pot. It would be shame."
"It's hard to make a formal complaint for a classroom mock trial." Thanatos gives up his search in the textbooks and closes it with a satisfying snap. "If the university specialized in law, I could see if another class also acted the same, but that's not an option."
He frowns. "Is it really that important to question? It seems the usual to me."
